Analysis of land subsidence due to groundwater extraction in the Toluca aquifer-system indicates that if current rates of water consumption continue, more than 1.6 m of subsidence will occur over the 40-year period from 2010 to 2050. This case study uses modeling to develop a ground fracture map to guide future urban development in the Toluca Valley.
