When a water supply well is installed, the hope is that the well will provide water a reliable supply for a long time, sustaining future generations. Hydrogeologic science developed principles that can (1) guide development projects to facilitate longevity, and/or (2) assess the longevity of an existing development. This book discusses the development of groundwater at the macro scale beginning with where water comes from when a single well is pumped and proceeding to development of an entire aquifer system.

Domain 2: Introduction to Physical Principles and Concepts

Author: Leonard F. Konikow - Emeritus Scientist, U.S. Geological Survey
John D. Bredehoeft - USGS Senior Research Scientist Emeritus and Founder of Hydrodynamics Group
