Description

The Worldwide Adventures of Droppy is an educational comic designed to teach primary school students about water and environmental issues. Through engaging adventures and storytelling, Droppy experiences seven adventures that touch on various topics such as the water cycle, wastewater, water pollution, water and agriculture, types of water and sustainability. The project includes complimentary teaching materials such as posters and animated videos which make complex water related issues accessible and engaging for young learners. Throughout the comic, Droppy meets children who learn about various water-related problems with him. Many of these challenges arise from a lack of understanding and are represented by negative characters like heavy metals, oil droplets, and harmful bacteria. However, Droppy consistently guides readers toward solutions, keeping the comic’s tone positive and solution oriented rather than critical or discouraging. The comic was originally developed within the Paraguayan-German project PAS-PY (Improvement of local groundwater protection), executed by the Paraguayan Ministry of Environment SEAM and the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), financed through funds provided by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The comic book was distributed to schools in Paraguay with a circulation of 40,000 copies.
