The Groundwater Project Needs Your Support

Please consider supporting the Groundwater Project (GW-Project). Your firm’s support will help to address one of the most immediate threats to our society’s future – the disappearance of freshwater. By 2030, half of humanity will be living in extreme water stress. Groundwater makes up 99% of all liquid fresh water and when drought comes, groundwater is the only fresh water available in many regions. We need more skilled groundwater scientists (e.g., hydrogeologists) to solve this crisis. However, globally, the numbers of graduating hydrogeologists are declining at a time when the need has never been greater. The GW-Project was started to help reverse this trajectory by providing high quality education for free in many languages to everyone.

By supporting the GW-Project you are helping to address this global water crisis through educating and training the next generation of hydrogeologists and related professionals, as well as stakeholders, decision-makers, and academicians. In 2024, the GW-Project transitioned from its primary activity of publishing synthesized books to include development of educational materials for online self-learning that includes self-testing for children, university students, and the general public. These new activities flourished thanks to the GW-Project volunteer framework and our global partnerships. In our mission to foster capacity-building to serve global societal needs, the GW-Project has become the largest knowledge repository for free high quality groundwater education. This is an impressive feat because this knowledge is normally hidden behind paywalls, thus inaccessible to most of the global population. In 2026, we will publish our first certified online learning module with a test-based certification option.

Sponsorship Opportunities

The GW-Project seeks funds to expand the range of educational products we provide (as detailed in our Expanded Vision). Since its inception in 2017, the GW-Project has advanced to its current states supported by a relatively small budget that grew to nearly $200,000 US dollars per year. The GW-Project requires salaried staff to manage the endeavor, along with copyediting, formatting, graphic designers (illustrations and videos), accounting services, and website management. Over the next 5 years the project is moving forward to expand learning activities through online learning modules resulting in the need for additional staff and contractors. To support this work, we seek an increase in our budget for the 2026 through 2030 period of approximately $260,000 USD per year. The GW-Project seeks Sustaining Sponsors to ensure that the GW-Project can continue to produce free-of-charge, high-quality education in many languages during the next five years and foster groundwater learning in all relevant industries and regions of the world. Sustaining sponsorships require an initial donation in 2026 of between $1,000 and $50,000 or more and a commitment to contribute the same amount annually through 2030. Donations of any level are always welcome, and the benefits shown in our sponsorship table can be prorated to match donations that fall between levels. Donations between $1,000 and $2,000 will receive prorated benefits of the $2,000 category.

Benefits for Your Company

Sponsoring the GW-Project will provide global recognition for your Firm because the project has an unprecedented reach to the world’s hydrogeologists and the water industry. With active social media channels on LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X we have over 60,000 subscribers across all of our platforms and groups. GW-Project books have 100,000 to 150,000 book readings each month with website visits expected to surpass that number. To help our sponsors reach this customer base we are offering new sponsorship benefits in 2026 and beyond. Please review the Sponsorship Opportunities & Benefits Table for additional details organized by sponsorship level. Highlights include:

  • Receive global recognition on our website and social media outlets (LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram), which has the potential to reach over 500,000 members of the groundwater industry annually.
  • Receive continuing recognition through placement of your Company logo in our newsletter, conference presentations and in our publications.
